Giving blood can save a life. It is that simple. One blood donation can save not just one but three people’s lives. If you have not donated in a while or have never donated before, now is the time to do so.

According to recent research 1 in 3 of us will need blood in our lifetime but only 1 in 30 people donate blood.

Where can you donate blood in Dubai?

Latifa Hospital Mosque, Oud Metha – Dubai

The main Dubai Blood Donation Centre is located behind Latifa Hospital Mosque, Oud Metha – Dubai. This center is the main supplier of blood to all DHA and Private Hospitals in Dubai and accredited by the American Associated of Blood Banks since 2012.

They are open Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 8:30 pm so a lot of time to go before or after work but please remember they are closed on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Once you have arrived at the location the waiting time is very minimal, they will confirm that you have completed the online questionnaire and you will need to present your Emirates ID. After this, you will proceed to a nurse who will complete a small medical check-up (including Blood pressure and heart rate) and ask you some further questions to ensure you are fit and healthy to give blood today.

Giving blood only take about 15 mins but enough time to sit and relax catch up on emails or simply listen to some music. After the blood has been donated the caring staff would like you to stay to ensure that you are feeling fit to drive. You will receive some lovely refreshments and have a small 10 min rest.

It really isn’t painful at all and if it means it can save three people’s lives it’s well worth an hour of my time.

Why not ask your work colleagues to join you at the blood bank before, during, or after work? It is a lovely way to give back to the community and get involved in a well-needed donation. You can also try to make this a regular act every quarterly together. The DHA also has a blood donation mobile bus which travels to different locations around Dubai.
